Movie Monday (1/3/11)
Monday, January 03, 2011It's Movie Monday, the original meme that Gina created here at The Bucket List to highlight books turned into movies. This week, I'm going to focus on the awesome movie, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
This movie is based off the book series entitled Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky. Though the book series is focused more for the older children spectrum, venturing into young adult fantasy, the movie is rated PG. It was released in theaters on September 24, 2010 and came on on DVD/Blu-ray December 17, 2010.
The book series, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, begins with the first story, The Capture.
via MovieWeb: The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father's epic stories of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones. While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father's favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd's jealousy has terrible consequences--causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls. Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole--Soren's only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.
The movie features the talented voices of Jim Sturgess (from Across the Universe) as Soren, Ryan Kwanten (from TrueBlood and Flicka) as Kludd, and Emily Barclay (from Suburban Mayhem) as Gylfie.
This animated adpatation of Lasky's book series is filled with amazing graphics and unbelieveable scenery. It's a work of art all in itself. The flight scenes and action sequences take your breath away. Having grown up reading the Guardians series, I can tell you, it was well worth the wait for the movie.
What are you watching this week?
