Catherine "Cat" Crawfield has always been looked at funny, but what do you expect when you're the only half-breed vampire in legend? In her small town, she can't catch a break between the insults against her unwed mother and the talking about her extra-curricular activities. Good thing she's got a vendetta against her mother's rapist, Cat's biological father, that has her killing every vampire she can. It helps with the stress.

Then one night, Cat finds a vampire at her local haunt that surprising turns her down, but offers her a surprising deal that could make or break her career. How could Cat resist Bones, the sexy, English gentleman who actually is exhibiting signs of a moral conscious? Taking the deal with Bones turns out to be the best things that ever happened to Cat. She not only learns to fight equal to the vampires she hunts, but she learns that each vampire is different, and not all of them are bloodsucking monsters. Halfway to the Grave is the first book in Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. In a nutshell, it is the story of a half-vampire trying to carve herself out a place in the mixed up world where both of her species are at war. I absolutely love Cat's wit and humor! It was another "this book is so funny, I laughed out loud and got strange looks" circumstance. The comebacks are killer! Cat is so snarky! I put off reading this series for a while because I thought it was another vampire-hunter-falls-in-love-with-a-vampire situation, but oh, how wrong I was. This series is so much more than vampires and R-rated love scenes. I recommend it to fans of paranormal and urban fantasy, also to readers who enjoy Kerrelyn Spark's Love at Stake series and J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
