For the Love of Anime and Manga
Sunday, June 30, 2013
I’ve wanted to try this for a long time. This idea has been going back and forth, in
my mind, and I’m just going to go ahead and post things about it and hope there
is some great feedback on it.
Throughout my second year in college, anime and manga have
become a bigger part of my life than they ever have been before. For those of you who may not know what anime
and manga are, they are Japanese graphic novels (manga) and animated shows
(anime). Back in high school, I loved Vampire Knight but refused almost every
other manga out there. Looking back, I
didn’t appreciate the art of manga and anime as much as I do now. I needed someone, back then, to show me that manga
and anime is not only wonderfully developed stories but, also, an art
form. Since then, I have read and
watched quite a bit and continue to do so.
With this new-found appreciation for these types of books
and shows, I wanted to bring all of that to The
Bucket List. So, here’s what I want
to do:
Every other month or every two months, I will tackle a new
manga (whether completed or not) and watch the anime based on the books. Since I race through the manga so fast, I
will post one review of the manga and one review for the anime (one review for
each season). Manga reviews will be
structured a little differently than other reviews: there will be a rating for
art rather than writing style, and a few other differences.
Starting this month or possibly next month (since I just
realized June is over), Black Butler
will take over. However, not entirely, The Bucket List will continue to run as
normal as ever except that you should watch for daily posts on the anime and
manga of that month. This is where I
need your help. Eventually, I am going
to run out of manga that I am familiar with to read and anime to watch. I want some recommendations and depending how
many manga are suggested, there will be a poll at the end of every other month. Sound good?
What is your favorite manga and/or anime?
