Booking Through Thursday and Third Sentence Thursday

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Deb over at her wordpress. The meme is an opportunity for book bloggers to answer a weekly question:

All other things being equal–do you prefer used books? Or new books? (The physical speciman, that is, not the title.) Does your preference differentiate between a standard kind of used book, and a pristine, leather-bound copy?

Honestly, I have no preferrence! Being the all animal friendly vegetarian I am, I'm not a real fan of leather bound. But to me, a book is a book. I'm guilty of finding a beat up, cover-handing-by-a-thread book, and bringing it home, taping it up, and adding it to my collection. As long as I can read them, condition is no matter. (Though I do love that feel of being the first ever to crack open the spine...)

Third Sentence Thursday

"His ankles were tangled in a slithering mass of metal, bolted through a ring in the pavement."
-Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, page 5
via Goodreads:

Incarceron is a prison unlike any other: Its inmates live not only in cells, but also in metal forests, dilapidated cities, and unbounded wilderness. The prison has been sealed for centuries, and only one man, legend says, has ever escaped.

Finn, a seventeen-year-old prisoner, can’t remember his childhood and believes he came from Outside Incarceron. He’s going to escape, even though most inmates don’t believe that Outside even exists. And then Finn finds a crystal key and through it, a girl named Claudia.

Claudia claims to live Outside—her father is the Warden of Incarceron and she’s doomed to an arranged marriage. If she helps Finn escape, she will need his help in return. But they don’t realize that there is more to Incarceron than meets the eye. Escape will take their greatest courage and cost far more than they know.

Because Incarceron is alive.
This book looks awesome! A live prison? Never seen this concept before! If you've read Incarceron, whether you liked it or not, let us know! I'd love to hear your take on it!

Happy reading!

Booking Through Thursday and Third Sentence Thursday

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted over at BTT2 Wordpress. The weekly questions is:

What’s the most romantic book you’ve ever read?
(Mind you, I don’t mean the hard-core stuff you hide in plain wrappers under your mattress. I mean True Love, Romance, deeply emotional, heart-tugging, and all that stuff.)
And, secondly, did you like it? Is it your usual kind of reading, or did it take you by surprise?

Well, I'm sure there's some book that I thought was amazing when I read it, but I cannot recall it as of now, so I'll go with another romantic book I've recently read.

Goddess of the Sea by P.C. Cast was a surprisingly great read! Though I am reluctant to admit it, I did not like Cast's House of Night series. I tried to read it, but I just wasn't feeling it. This book however, was amazing. In the Goddess Summoning series, Cast has rewritten various mythological stories from a different point of view. This particular book covered the legend of the mermaid Undine. It was a great read and I'm eagerly awaiting the second book which is the new story of Persephone and Hades.

Third Sentence Thursday

Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Sniffly Kitty for charging into the promote a third sentence fray!

1) Take the book you are reading now and post the third sentence
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Share the link and spread the love!

"I'm a coyote shapeshifter playing in a world of werewolves and vampires -- outmatched is an understatement"
-Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs

I loved the first few books in this series, and this installment is not a let down so far! Mercedes Thompson is a strong character that rarely disappoints. She's also quite funny in her mannerisms, but then again, when life is as hectic as hers gets, you need some kind of humor.

Plus Mercy holds her own against hordes of bounty hunters, rogue werewolves, double agent fae, and other menageries of magical and paranormal folk.

What are you reading?

Over at Booking Through Thursday's Wordpress, they hold a weekly meme that asks the tough book related questions that bloggers get to answer and therefore, share our views with the world! (Or, you know, just our awesome followers! :)

This week's question is a thought-provoking one:
There’s something wonderful about getting in on the ground floor of an author’s career–about being one of the first people to read and admire them, before they became famous best-sellers.

Which authors have you been lucky enough to discover at the very beginning of their careers?

And, if you’ve never had that chance, which author do you WISH you’d been able to discover at the very beginning?

I've read wonderful debut books, but I love the feel of reading a new book that features old character whose stories you know. Therefore, I wish I could go back in time to the debut of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series. Seeing what her series is now from what it started out as, I would love the chance to go back and pick up one of her books for the first time. To take a chance by buying it without hearing any reviews. To reclaim that feeling you get when you read an amazing book for the first time, the second, the fiftieth. That feeling is why I blog :]

What author do wish you discovered at the beginning?

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by the BTT Wordpress Blog. This meme is a great way to see the answers to all those puzzling book questions you've had.

This week's question:

What book has changed your life?

My answer is that I personally believe that different books afect people in different ways. No matter what you read, whether it is the greatest story to grace the printed word or something you despised reading from the very first word; it affects you.

Throughout my literate life, I have burned through countless books. I can honestly say that no one book has affected me so much as bits and pieces of endless others has. From the books I read, I take a piece with me after it ends. Be it a quote, a description, or just the very concept of the story.

All in all, I think that though some have their favorites, I have my collection of favorite bits and pieces.. and that's good enough for me.

What book has changed you?
