10 Book Covers with Water On Them

Tuesday, August 29, 2023

For today's Top Ten Tuesday, I thought I would share some of the books on my TBR that have water on their covers.  Since spooky season is fast approaching, I decided to feature those books that bring those creepy vibes (though I did include some pirate and siren books too!). Compiling this list, I didn't realize how many books I could find that have water on the cover and are spooky, but there are so many of them. There must be something about ripples in water that lends itself to the scary atmosphere. If you've read some of these, I would love to know your thoughts in the comments down below.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top 10 Book Covers with Water:

Top 10 Favorite Movies of All Time

Tuesday, April 18, 2023

Since this is a book blog, I rarely mention something other than books. I tend to not go into my day-to-day happenings and rarely, mention the movies I love. Years ago, I posted movie reviews along with my book reviews but I preferred writing about books instead. However, to change it up a little, today I will be sharing some of my favorite movies of all time.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top 10 Non-Book Freebie - Top 10 Favorite Movies:

The Princess Bride: At the core of this, the movie celebrates the joy of storytelling and reading. I love it so much!

The Conjuring: A horror movie is ten times more frightening when it says, "Based on true events." I've met part of Ed and Lorraine Warren's (the movie follows a case of theirs) investigative team and got to hear a bunch of their real-life investigations. Knowing how there are aspects of the true events, the movie becomes even more chilling!

The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring: What a movie! I know it's quite long, but it's a classic adventure fantasy. And it's based on an amazing book!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty: This movie is a love letter to travel. It's gorgeous and spontaneous. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it!

Forever Young: It's an older movie, but I love it all the same. The movie is a romance of the best kind. It follows kids who find a cryogenically frozen pilot in an old warehouse. The pilot discovers that, despite being frozen for some time, his true love still lives and he intends to find her before time catches up to him. So fantastic!

Inception: This screenplay is next level amazing! The complex structure of being within a dream and the different levels of the conscious just blows my mind every time I watch it. The open ending also always leaves me with questions.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl: I must admit, this is probably where my love for pirates originated. Any book or movie with pirates in them is usually an automatic win for me.

The Illusionist: In a similar vain of The Prestige (which is a great movie too!), The Illusionist revolves around the allure of magic and illusions. It's a murder mystery with magic elements and when the case comes together, it will most definitely blow your mind.

Knives Out: This one is a classic who-done-it mystery. The large fantastic cast of characters makes this movie even more enticing and fun; it will certainly keep you guessing until the very end.

Split: James McAvoy should have won an award for his portrayal of Kevin in this. He is a true star!

Have you seen some of these? Let me know your favorite movies!

When I saw the theme for this week's Top Ten Tuesday, I wasn't sure if it would be easy. Honestly, I couldn't think of any book covers with animals on them. Thus, I turned to my TBR on Goodreads and examined each cover. And most of the books on my TBR do not have animals on them. However, if you squint at some of these covers, you may be able to find a bird, snake, or other animal on them.

10 Books that Left Me With A Book Hangover

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

When I finish a book that I absolutely adore, I usually have to take a moment with my thoughts. It's those kind of books where I have to take several days, where I can't stop thinking about what happened, that are truly special. All of these books quickly become favorites as they leave me reeling in a book hangover.

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is: Top 10 Books that Gave Me a Book Hangover:

The Charmed List by Julie Abe (a perfect balance of fantastical elements and romance - did anyone say a magical tea shoppe?)
Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall (a horror that will leave you on the edge of your seat)
Lore Olympus Volume 3 by Rachel Smythe (an amazing graphic novel series that reimagines Greek myths and characters!)

A Treacherous Curse by Deanna Raybourn (a good mix of a historical mystery with a slow-burn romance)
Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher (a marriage of convenience that will make you swoon)
The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole (So many amazing elements with this one: fantastic action sequences, the ultimate road trip, the one bed trope, snarky vampires!)

Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors by Sonali Dev (such a fantastic Pride and Prejudice retelling!)
From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout (a surprising fantasy with some of my favorite tropes - royalty in disguise, the chosen one, and more!)
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas (dare I say one of Maas' best?!)

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson (a fun murder mystery with plenty of twists and turns)
